Of all the top artists performing at Sziget, perhaps Avicii was the toughest to create custom designs for. Vinylize shaper Simon says, "The problem wasn't just his unusual facial features, but also that I didn't really have many examples of what styles he likes to wear."

We definitely wanted to make Avicii some hard-core party sunglasses that would look great even from the dance floor when he is on the decks, while also bringing out his characteristic facial features. According to Simon, "The topline of the frame, the sharp contour running towards the temple butt, the cutaway to the top right of the lens and the small radii were all shaped around the characteristic elements of Avicii's face." 

We ran through dozens of variations before deciding on a few to prototype. Out of all the headliners, Avicii’s frame was the one we created the most prototypes for until we were finally happy with the results.

The prototypes are 3D printed, so they are relatively easy to make. They also enable us to check the size, look and fit before adjusting them again and creating a modified design. Once the final prototype is approved, the frames go into production – which goes a little something like this.

We decided to use gradient lenses for Tim's frames. This way he can wear them while he works.

The finished work of art is packaged in an exclusive box showcasing the vinyl it was made from. As an extra special touch, the box is specially designed to eject the frame from the box - a feature that all the artists we have shown the box sets to so far absolutely love. We are sure Avicii will be no different.
